MEMS Accelerometer Sensors for Industrial Monitoring
Most vibration sensors still struggle with low-frequency measurements—until you look at how MEMS technology handles tilt and seismic monitoring differently. Unlike traditional piezoelectric accelerometers that roll off below 1 Hz, MEMS sensors can capture true DC response, making them a practical choice for slow-moving structural deformations, platform leveling, and long-period vibration. Kingmach supplies MEMS accelerometer sensors as part of a wider geotechnical instrument range, with field experience in tunnel convergence, bridge health, and landslide early warning. These units come in both analog and digital output versions, so integration into existing DAQ or wireless nodes is straightforward. If your project needs a specific enclosure, cable length, or mounting orientation, custom orders are standard practice here—not a special request.
Technical Detail
Kingmach’s MEMS accelerometer sensors are built for long-term monitoring in harsh environments, where stable zero bias and low noise matter more than spec-sheet extremes. The sensing element, a bulk-micromachined silicon MEMS die, is packaged with temperature compensation to keep scale factor drift minimal across a wide operating range. Common full-scale options span ±2 g to ±200 g, but most structural and geotechnical jobs stay below ±10 g, where resolution of a few micro-g is achievable. Output is either a high-level voltage (0.5–4.5 V ratiometric) or digital via RS-485, making it easy to match with loggers from Campbell Scientific, NI, or bespoke edge devices. What separates a good MEMS sensor from a noisy one isn’t just the MEMS element itself—it’s the surrounding signal conditioning and calibration. Each unit goes through a multi-point calibration on a precision tilt table, not just a “room temperature spot check.” Customers who track long-term stability typically see bias repeatability within 1 mg over 12 months. Inclinometer and vertical arrays are common delivery formats; we bond the sensors into custom aluminum or stainless steel housings with IP68 glanded exits, then pot the assembly to survive submersion or direct burial. For integrators, a plain PCB-mounted version without housing is also available, while full turnkey packages include cellular telemetry and cloud dashboards if needed.

FAQ
Yes. That’s one of the key advantages over piezoelectric types. A MEMS accelerometer responds to static acceleration, so it can measure tilt or gravity with no lower frequency limit—useful for monitoring very slow movements in retaining walls or bridge piers.
Geophones are good for short-term seismic surveys but they don’t cover DC. MEMS gives you flat response from true DC up to a few hundred Hertz, so one sensor can handle tilt, low-frequency sway, and medium-frequency vibration without needing separate devices.
It depends on the full scale and bandwidth. For a ±2 g range at 100 Hz bandwidth, density is often around 25 µg/√Hz. Narrowing the bandwidth to 10 Hz brings it below 10 µg/√Hz. If you’re monitoring very subtle tilts, we can select low-noise versions during production.
Routinely. We’ve supplied units with stainless steel shells for borehole arrays, right-angle connectors for tight installations, and armored cables for sites with rodent risk. Just give us a sketch or a spec, and we’ll quote the modification.
